Bourbon was first distilled by French settlers in America during the 1790s. Although it is most closely associated with America, it was actually first produced in Ireland, Scotland and England before making its way to America. Bourbon whiskey was first made on the small scale, but after President Andrew Jackson started giving out large land grants for those who provided corn for government distilleries, bourbon became a major source of income for farmers living in Kentucky.
This whiskey can be described as a golden-amber color and has a smooth taste that ranges from slightly sweet to spicy to smoky. It also has a rich aroma and is slightly oily to the touch, along with being clear when poured into a glass container. The flavor profile varies depending on the point at which sugars were added during the fermentation process.
